CRS Score Explained: How to Increase Your Points in 2026
Candidates in the Express Entry pool are ranked using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). CRS points are awarded based on factors such as age, education, language proficiency (IELTS or CELPIP), Canadian and foreign work experience, spouse factors, valid job offers, and provincial nominations.
In 2026, applicants can improve their CRS score by retaking language tests to achieve higher bands, gaining additional Canadian work experience, completing higher education credentials, or applying through a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which adds 600 CRS points. Category-based draws targeting healthcare, STEM, trades, transport, and French-speaking candidates also offer additional opportunities.
Difference Between CEC, FSW, and FST
The CEC is designed for individuals with skilled Canadian work experience. The FSW targets professionals with foreign work experience and strong education and language skills. The FST is for qualified tradespeople with relevant experience and certification. Meeting the eligibility of at least one program is mandatory to enter the Express Entry pool.
